I'm quite partial to mackerel in mustard sauce and sardines in mild chilli sauce. Laughably, every tin involves surgery as I have to remove the spine bones and nerves.
Those and pilchards are super vfm proteins. Fine on toast, bread, or stirred into rice. Mr JJ hates them.... And me after I've eaten them

It is a shame that pilchards are rapidly turning into unobtainium. I have not seen any for sale in my local supermarket for months.

B&M or Home Bargains for about £1.09 for 400g tin in tomato sauce. Not Delicious, but cheap :)

Went to Aldi, for the cheap whisky, and got one of their packet mac and cheeses, 49p I think. You have to add load of water, bit of milk. I thought it would be like watery soup with a few noodles, but by the time I'd eaten a bit, the pasta had swelled up more, and there was less liquid, and it was pretty good! Very filling actually. I used full fat milk, and a lump of Utterly Butterly Lightly, and a bit of pepper, tiny bit of salt. Taste was pretty reasonable. Texture was ok, they were softer that al dente, of course, but not bad. You have to simmer it for 5 minutes. So not quite as efficient on fuel as noodles. But quicker than normal pasta.

Thanks.
I can live with 49p for an almost MRE :) I'll pick one up on Thursday
They also do a 40g sachet of cheese sauce mix only, ( so more cheese for your money? ), for 39p, which I'll also pick up.

I suppose it's all about getting the essence of cheese for a post cheese world. I'll be 'sperimenting with making it extra thick to see if I can gesture towards cheese on toast.

Meanwhile, I'm having to defer the week on rations for a while.

I just realised why it was filling. 440 calories, and I used full fat milk, and added a knob of marge. It says 220 on the packet, but that's for half a packet.

Definitely, but for a few reasons I'm struggling to set aside a contiguous 7 day period where I can feed just myself this separate diet.

I understand. I think it would be a right struggle to do this chez Gillybee.
