My xtar charger has the ability to cycle the batteries, gives a better idea of the capacity. It also shows internal resistance when they're charging; if the cell that behaves poorly has a high resistance then that's normally a sign it's failed.

Mine does show internal resistance, so I'll have a look next time I charge it.

Batteries are always a gamble—you never know when they’ll die, especially in the cold or with heavy use. That’s why I’m leaning more toward power banks and gear that can be charged via USB. One solid power bank gives you backup power for a flashlight, phone, GPS, even a mini headlamp. If you’ve got no way to recharge, you’re stuck—but a power bank can save the day.

likewise a power bank can suffer a failure on the battery / control pcb there is no 100% secure / reliable method

I have a couple I purchased to use in my Zebralight. Under powered and cut off when used on high beam. I wouldn't trust them personally.

I had a couple but gave up on them. As things stand, I have rechargeable and a range of rechargers (plus ways to power them). The ones with a built in usb C port just introduced another variant for charging. I wanted to simplify things so decided to avoid them.
