TVP as bird feed?

Post by Nurseandy »

Bit of an off centre question here - we're in rural aberdeenshire, been snowed in for a week, not expecting to get out until at least the weekend if not longer. Humans and cats have plenty of provisions, however we've run out of bird food for the wild (garden) birds. We have some TVP that we didn't particularly like. I know soy is used for cattle feeds but can we give it to the garden birds?
Please note - my missus will be mortified if we get it wrong and kill them! ;)

Would not think so, TVP does not have the natural oils or fats that birds need in their diet to survive, also it is normally high in salt and additives which birds bodies would not be able to handle.

That is my thoughts on it but others may think differently.

Thanks adjee, according to the ingredients list it is pure soy with nothing else which I find hard to believe as it is an UPF.
I agree that it's not a balanced diet for them but it's a case of that or nothing. Main concern is not making things worse.

UPF = Preservatives, Colourings, Flavourings (normally). Knowing that I would also find the labelling hard to believe but .........
