Ouch!

Post by Medusa »

I see my NHS dentist every 6 months as recommended, I brush my teeth twice a day and floss as I cant get to grips with those interdnental brush things. I have spent the last week in pain and couldnt work out if it was earache from a recent virus, a dental abscess or something else. Turned out to be a cracked tooth and spent yesterday being diagnosed and today an hour in the dentist chair having the thing drilled out and composite filled and capped. Not conviced that this was the best decision and was persuaded to try and save the tooth and am still in pain. I am absolutely convinced that dental problems are one of the most painful issues in a SHTF scenario.

Too right hope your feeling better soon during COVID the wife was hours away from a major sepsis episode due to a gammy tooth. Came out the dentist with more antibiotics than boots stocked

So sorry to hear this, Medusa, that level of pain is just awful. And ongoing, from the sound of it :(

Hopefully it is rectified soon.

Having had something similar I make sure some oil of cloves/clove oil is always in storage.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Had a broken tooth, the root was still left when the remaining piece came away and I got a minor abscess...... I can fully understand pulling your own tooth, you just want to make it stop.
Clove oil (pure essential, cut with cooking oil), and paracetamol got me through the week before the appointment.
Seven day course of antibiotics afterwards and told not to eat rice or couscous for a month.

It can get stuck in the socket and its soft enough to not hurt, but firm enough that brushing might not shift it.
And then your gum may close up over the top, sealing issues in for the future.

Yes, I was surprised too..... Obviously my dentist (a really nice gentle Indian lady) has dealt with that problem before

Oooh! Heal up soon! My daughter has a wisdom tooth that’s growing horizontally in the gum and we suspect is giving her migraines. One more medical thing to take care of!
