We just had a power outage in my neighbourhood, and half the people who had solar were in the dark with the rest of us. Only a couple of people had a battery installed.
That'll be the anti island system working if you have a battery and inverter and more importantly a mechanical change over switch that prevents you putting power into the grid and electrocuting the power workers fixing the problem you can run a few circuits In the house
I *think* newer systems automate the changeover so if the mains drops they auto-isolate until it comes back. One of my neighbours has a big old PV/battery set up and when the grid went out in 2024 she never noticed, she didn't have to flip any switches.
