I just read that Cuba is yet again in the grip of a total electricity outage, and of course, they have almost zero petrol. So I was again impressed at one recent development: The solar powered electric tricycle. https://www.cubaheadlines.com/articles/334877
At about $3000 they are not cheap to Cubans.

So. Evidence that in a post petrol economy, solar self sufficiency becomes expensive if you don't already have it and valuable if you do. Buy some solar equipment now, while you can afford it!

These are really three wheeled vans according to the photo in the article. Think Del Boy and Rodders, but bigger, with a solar panel on the roof. Not sure why people make vans with only 3 wheels. You can buy a trike that's like an ordinary bike but with two wheels at the front, which are either side of a cargo container, with a solar panel on top. You can pedal these if the battery is dead. https://www.haleytricycles.com/eassist. Could be hard work though.

Personally I rely on two legs to propel my bike, though if I was rich I would probably get an electric for doing longer distances, and I'd tour round the Cheshire countryside and Peak District.

There are quite a few others on the market, at least internationally. But bear in mind the weight can outweigh the amount of power you get from the panel in terms of trickle charging while in use. Cuba gets a lot more sunlight than we do.
