So what does it taste like

I've been out of work since June 24th and we have had occasion to dip into the preps. This is what we've found so far.

PRINGLES: Out of date by 2 years, taste fine, still crunchy, even after a year or so in the attic and then in the prep shed.

BAKED BEANS: Out of date by 2.5 to 3 years. Perfectly edible on toast, some of the cheaper brands can be slightly anemic, but a dash of ketchup cures that.

TINNED VEG: Great, Peas & Carrots to go with a gravy dinner, absolutely no problems being well out of date.

TUNA: About 2 years out of date again, fine in fishcakes.

INSTANT COFFEE: This was a let down, Glass Jars of Maxwell House, vacuum sealed. The wife said they just dont have that 'oomph' you expect. Can see us going down the bean and grinder route in future. These were best before 2009.

TEA: Great, Bought a load in 2008 ? Got 12 months stashed in their foil bags and vacuum sealed the bags. Taste fine and a good cuppa.

That's it so far. If we have to hit anything else I'll update this, however can anyone else report on out of date food flavours ?

I had a chocolate today with a year over the best before date and it's still perfectly fine.

I had some Morrisons Pear Halves that were 2008 and they tasted and looked great.

I was expecting some discolouration but they looked the same as in date ones.

Had some Heinz tomato soup that was 2009 and it tasted perfect. Although I did have three tins and the other two had leaked. It was one of those big tins which is the same as two ordinary tins.

Wifey had some Fruit cocktail that was 2008 and she said it was perfectly edible.

We have both had some sauces in jars that were out of date like Tikka Masala, barbeque, etc. All from about 2009 and various makes. All tasted great with no visible side effects.

Had some bad luck, bricks of pineapple juice do NOT store well into the 4th year past their best before date. Couldn't even use them to make a pineapple and banana wine. Perhaps I should have frozen em

Oh yeah, tinned new potatoes. Not sure about the batching process. But I have 40+ family sized tins in excellent condition, and maybe 3 that had started to ferment...

Toilet Roll. Started a Charmin Ultra 24 pack the other day that has been sat in the attic for the last 3 years. Discovered it's bright whiteness has stared to yellow. Still wipes yer bum like a champ tho....

Just like they do in the supermarkets when they stock the shelves - pull forward the older goods and put the new stuff behind. Time consuming YES but it should mean little waste and less diarrohea!!!!

I found some chocolate in the fridge that was bought for me 6 years ago in 2005. I know because a friend bought it for my birthday and he brought it all the way from Germany. The date on it is 2009 so it obviously had a long date to start off with. I might try it over the weekend.

How good am I keeping chocolate for 6 years, it normally lasts about 3 days or until I find wifey's hiding place.

I don't mind the odd bit of the runs every now and then to clean out the pipes. It's the projectile vomitting that sucks.
