Same here please:
50 x 1 Gal mylar bags + oxy absorbers
http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-1-gallon-Myl ... 500wt_1197

I may actually get that x2 but need to see what would be the cost with shipment. I think customs will add something to it too.

I remember the last time I've ordered something from US and China they had a look at the invoice and calculated the customs charge based on that but if your friend is going to send it to you then they may not add anything at all. Not sure.

Did Customs calculate the charge when it arrived here, so you sent them the charge or did it have to be paid before leaving the country of origin?

Customs put on the charge when they have the parcel in their hands but some shops ad customs charges when you place your order. I think the last time I paid the courier who came in with the parcel. It's a small charge anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I've just had a delivery from The Discovery Store in the US via DHL.
When the parcel arrived in the UK I had a phonecall from DHL regarding the import tax and paid online. Did the same last year and paid the courier when he arrived. Not sure what it would be if it is a private parcel sent between 2 friends?

Hi purchased some in US before they were in the UK as Self Sufficency Shop was the only one in UK at the time and prices were much too high for my taste

I purchased from this seller on Ebay US in June 2009

http://www.ebay.com/itm/50ct-Mylar-Bags ... 3f0e53c93e

I paid via Paypal

$83.00 - at the time for the 50- 5 gallon
$78.50 -(shipping was the same)

Total = $161.50 = £106.25

When item arrived in UK had to pay the following to Parcel Force

£8.00 Parcel Force Handling Fee +
£18.59 VAT
TOTAL = £26.59

Total Cost for 50 - 20 x 30 Bags= £132.84 (yikes!! :cry: )

At first I couldn't figure out how they came up with the VAT figure but when I asked them VAT is paid on item PLUS the shipping cost and then they add the handling fee.

I was none too pleased :evil: especially as I got a bad batch of absorbers from this seller on top of everything else.

Having gone through that experience and also got hit with an Amazon.com purchase as well - with the VAT and £8.00 handling fee because of course Amazon sent as merchandise - the charges cost more than the item..... so now unless I REALLY REALLY MUST HAVE IT I try to buy in UK only

So you need to keep this in mind when your friend is shipping all the items to you - with everyone chipping in I guess the extra costs wont be too bad as against when 1 person is buying the item, the charges can end up being alot.

hope this helps :D
