Bit hard on the P&P.. 20 quid for a 60L drum. another tenner to get it delivered. Put's my plans for hiding a cache of 'necessities' in each raised bed on the backburner.silverrider wrote:http://www.ampulla.co.uk/default.asp?Technik wrote:Uh! Where did you get these from? Go and have a word with your local Chippy chap. The oil used comes as a solid in big buckets. Might also be worth trying the local Curry house too. That's where I used to get mine from.Ogre wrote:

not sure where your based but a couple links for alternatives below that might be useful:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/60LT-CLEAN-OP ... 415e63ffb0
This link below is just a link to the seller - highgrove32 - he doesnt have any of the 60L drums at the moment but occassionally sells them - so you may want to get in contact with him to find out if he is getting any more
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-6x-20L-NO ... 4aaf3497e9
another seller:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120-LITRES-PL ... 35b5f79701
In essence go on Ebay there are vast variety of sellers who sell the drums over all of the country - some deliver and some collection only - and you pay a fraction of the cost.

Slow week, afternoons and no wages until next friday. Got 10Kg of Bread Flower out of the freezer (leave it in deep freeze 4 days to kill off any mites etc.) Spit it into smaller lots, double bagged it in the vacuum sealer and added it to storage.

Solar panel construction is great fun, if demanding. I have done my own with broken reclaimed cells and still got over 100W of power going through my GTI.pietka wrote:found a seller on ebay doing tonne bags of pre cut palletwood for £20 in my local area soooo I took the van up there and grabbed one! =) also started tabbing the solar cells that came in my kit! =)
Anyway....
I am doing my “prepping” for a number of different reasons, the primary ones being that I am self employed and don't know when I am going to have times when I cant work and therefore if I have to have food in store so I don't have to go without.
The second purpose is that last winter, I had to go out in the freezing cold (minus 20) to buy myself food. This winter I don't want to be caught out. It makes sense in times of relative prosperity to prepare for times of less.
Sure there is also the other aspect of “what if”, but that “what if” is more to do with power cuts or bills getting steeper, some nasty flavours in the water and other basic things. I am still not in the “economic decline” camp, despite what CNBC or Russia Today says.
I received some money from a client and thought “whoopeeee! Time to get some prepping in!” and nipped down to tesco with a good list of all the things that I wanted to get.
I did a massive shopping load (£80, which for me is alot!) and have now topped up big time on flours, lentils (indus green and indus mung beans), tins, tea and lots more to add to the existing collection. My cupboards look sumptuous now and I have started to get that feeling that certain internet preppers talk about, that feeling of being calmer. Knowing that if I can't get out due to illness, snow etc., I can still feed myself for a few weeks and probably have a good diet that is filling and nutritious.
BUT, I then started to draw up my list of things that I would need in the eventuality of any form of SHTF and I needed personal and domestic hygiene, medicines and a few other things that I might have missed out of in my first major list etc. This new list is now over 20 items long and growing....

You've made a great start and if ever you feel you can't do it, go to your cupboards and revel in that calmness.nickdutch wrote:Solar panel construction is great fun, if demanding. Re: What Preps are you doing this week
worked three weeks in a row with no days off, I figure with the economy being as shitty as it is, its better to do as much work as posable while its about.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Fixed up the greenhouse and insulated the shed on the allotment. Next to install the woodburner....
