Please All Read Before Posting In Here!

Post by diamond lil »

Can we just talk in general about related matters in here but PLEASE don't post "way-out" theories and dodgy websites which could be construed as medical advice. Unless you're a doctor and can prove it! Previously somebody posted about bicarb being a cure for cancer - which was very upsetting and distressing for somebody who had recently lost a family member to this condition.
Thanks people

Guess that will knock homeopathy on the head then.
While some studies, including Benveniste's, have reported such an effect, double-blind replications of the experiments involved have failed to reproduce the result. The concept is not consistent with accepted scientific laws and is not accepted by the scientific community.[5][6] Liquid water does not maintain ordered networks of molecules for longer times than a small fraction of a nanosecond.[7]
A google search on "homeopathy fact or fiction", May well throw doubt into peoples minds whether this is real or as they call it "quackary". But some of the theories behind why it works are quite interesting. :?

Living with a nurse who has just acheived an MSc in Advanced Health Practice with his dissertation looking at alertnative medicines and its usefulness with people who have suffered strokes... I would suggest we don't even go down the route of discussing homopathy as the jury is still out on the actual medical benefits of it.
If it works for you, great but we need to be considering our health linked to modern medicines at the moment and our future health, moving more towards using tradtional remedies. Again not everything works for everybody and we need to respect that! Please. :)

Su, does your comment mean you have more faith in modern medicines rather than traditional ones? I don't know whether homeopathy works, and if I got sick I wouldn't run to it either, just asking. Do you not think it better advocating dietary and lifestyle changes, rather than modern drugs to better your condition and 'prep' yourself against further attack?

History has shown us that there are some modern medicines that have allowed us to sustain our lives and live to a ripe old age (I'm thinking Edward Jenner and the smallpox vaccine). I personally try to keep healthy through considering what I eat, regular exercise and I certainly don't visit the doctor very much (last october for anti biotics for a chest infection, although I stuck with that for nearly 2 weeks before going).
However, I cannot agree with someone who has cancer forgoing the modern medicines that have been developed for homopathy....
My Mum has parkinsons and we have seen a huge improvement in how she is through the medicine she is now taking. If it will prolong her quality of life for a few more years then so be it!!!!
I believe its about getting a balance and yes, I did consider all the options before getting my children vaccinated.

My own personal (stressing this is only my own viewpoint and opinion here) view is that traditional and modern medicines can work hand in hand, but...
with herbal meds, for example, there's a tendancy for people to treat them as relatively side effect free and almost harmless. Given that plants contain chemicals equally as strong, in many cases, as synthetic meds, this can be dangerous. Even nowadays with modern meds there are often warnings of contraindications when mixed with herbal remedies.
Likewise, there's sometimes a tendancy to dismiss modern synthetic meds as 'evil' or too dangerous. But I can tell you that modern medicine has literally saved my life three times. Without it I'd have died a long time ago.
My own philosophy regarding health is to practice preventative care as much as possible. Healthy eating, exercise, sleep (something I struggle with) and so on.
But when I do get ill, I have no qualms about using modern medicine, as well as traditional remedies if they will help and not interfere with modern treatment. If that makes sense?
Health is such a vital, crucial thing and most of us, when we're young and fit, take it for granted.
I'm older now and things literally change when you age. You can no longer rely on good health.
It makes sense to be armed with as much information from reliable sources as you can deal with, and as much first aid know how, and self treatment that you are comfortably able with, maybe not for use at the moment but as part of your prepping, because I fully believe that in most SHTF scenarios, doctors will be thin on the ground.

Informed choice is the way to go, "blind" faith that it is being done for our benefit is not necessarily the way to go.

How many times have "we" been to the Docs to be given something with instructions to go back if it doesn't work  Are they playing a guessing game with the medications and strengths there of that they give us, apparently so. ;)

My grandfather was a doctor, my uncle is a doctor, my grandmother was a nurse, my second doctor is a doctor, I am planning to be a doctor and I am allready doing some training. So I think that my family has a medical line. :)

I worked in a military hospital as part of my training. One image that changed the way I viewed life was an 85 year old chap, he was a life long whiskey drinker, a fisherman who had smoked and drank hard all his life, he was in a bed on the surgical ward after having ingrowing toenail surgery. The guy next to him was a 27 year old Royal Marine Corporal, never smoked, rarely drank ,fitness fanatic. The old guy discharged himself against the doc's instructions because he wanted to go for a pint in Gosport before closing time. The Royal Marine died of a very aggressive cancer of the colon 3 weeks later.
Since then, if I fancy eating a bar of chocolate, I will eat a bar of chocolate. If I fancy a beer, I will have a beer. I lost my old man recently, just starting to sink in that he aint here no more, we should just enjoy what we have left,
I personally would take any tablet that would work, or might work, just to squeeze out as much life as I can out of this world.
The ladies on the Titanic refused the cake at the end of their meal, because they were watching their weight..... An hour later they were gone. Eat your cake, NOW!
Hope I haven't offended anyone suffering from a terminal illness, or knows somebody that has or is, this was not the intention of my post

You're right though Scablifter, life can sometimes be too short for some, for others it can be too long.

Live and Love
But don't forget to play
and really enjoy life.

Don't take life too seriously, nobody ever makes it out alive anyway. ... If you want it, just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally! ... Friendship is like peeing in your pants: Everyone can see it but only you can feel its warmth .... If it looks like there's nothing to worry about, that's when you really have to worry ...
