I've just been thinking about this, after watching the demonstrations yesterday and watching testimonies from iraq war veterans (no link between the two, but it got me thinking)

My ideal BOL would be out of the UK entirely. It would need to be a country which is not currently or recently been involved in any international conflict, it would need to be reasonably economically healthy with a relatively low international borrowings in relation to its GDP, it would also need to have the kind of environment which is good for agriculture.

So far I've come up with New Zealand... any thoughts or alternatives on this?

Getting out of the country would require pre planning and i realistic view of a time frame as to when things would get so bad that it may be difficult to arrange a suitable plan to jump ship and leave the country, if things collapsed within say 48 hours

IMHO, i think if a person has the option to get to another country because its considered to be safer then the UK then they should move long before the first signs of serious collapse,

i have a friend that moved to New Zealand several years ago and said recently when he came back that the life style is better and safer then the UK

I think if things get so bad that there is total chaos then i as mentioned in a recent post i would be heading for the Highlands as its very remote and it would be very difficult for the average un-prepped thug or gangs, pirates or whatever groups form, to be able to adapt or have the survival items and skills required to survive in such remote areas

Just my view for whats its worth

I suppose the other advantage to UK bugging is that you could make your way there on foot or bicycle if you had no other choice etc., also having the basis knowledge of this country (language customs etc.) would help

The only thing about the channel islands is that aren't they a bit close to France?

...But what when things get tougher, and the inhabitants decide to drive out the incomers...? Like the islanders on Fair Isle and the sailors from the Spanish armada.. Would apply to NZ as well as Scotland.

I think I'd be quite happy to stay in England. I know the place reasonably well in terms of its geography but primarily, my main reason for staying is this: why should I leave? This is my land, where many of my people remain, that's likely to be the case after a disaster, all else aside... so I'd stay in the country, no matter what the danger. I'd think I'd rather fall here than be miserable elsewhere but if I survive and flourish here, it is to do so in my own land. Also, if I fall elsewhere, I do so in a land that isn't mine. I can see the pros and cons but it just doesn't seem right to me. That's my own personal feelings about the matter though.

If I either won the EuroMillions (the Lotto jackpot isn't worth it after it's been divvied up between winners) or was magically given my ideal perfect prepping scenario in an instant, I would have a smallholding or farm somewhere in the West Midlands. Never mind that I know nothing about farming, I would learn, but that would be my ideal place to be.

By the way, when I say 'no matter what the danger', it depends what type and scale of danger it is.
