"Energy bills are set to soar by hundreds of pounds a year, bringing real financial pain to millions of people already struggling to pay.

In a bleak prediction, industry analysts warn that annual electricity prices could rocket by 60 per cent, with gas increases of 54 per cent because of rising wholesale costs. The steep hike could result in total energy bills in excess of £2,000 a year.

Experts blame the upward trend on the green agenda which will force suppliers to invest in new technologies that consumers will have to pay for. "

Transport will more than likely be going to electric as well, the technology is "getting there" and a few years time will be even better, farming, well that needs population reduction to make it work, without the oil based fertilisers that will not take too long to achieve, but the skill sets of farming the old fashioned way are pretty much gone. Diesel engines were designed to run on peanut oil, so there are ways to keep some form of machinery going, but wind, water and solid fuel will also play a big part in that.

its not going to be that simple.
tyres are made from oil,
while we could go back to making them from rubber,
theres not enough rubber trees to even make 5% of what would be needed,
same with bio fuels, theres not nearly enough for what would be needed

It will only go UP. The resources are slowly running dry, the CEOs need bigger houses, etc. so our bills will be higher each year even if we reduce the heating. Only way out of this is to concentrate on the things that are free like solar energy, wind and invest some money in these technologies in order to save for future.

The trouble is solar and wind will never produce enough energy for what the needs are at this moment in time. But investing as an individual to provide for your own power needs is the way to go IMHO.

We shouldn't be aiming to produce the amount we need, we should be learning to use the amount we produce.

That is why we are in such a mess with our energy programme, we just keep wanting more and more, instead of trying to use less and less.

I cut my electric bill by over 25% in one year, by using less.

And I am sure many of us on this forum have done the same. However, its all the 'others' around on that continue to not cut back that coniue to add to the problem. That doesn't change. We have to think about ourselves and how we can meet out needs.
