I also live in the "real" world, I don't live near a reactor, so no worry there, Last one to have a big problem in the UK was over 50 years, and that is over 200 miles from me and a similar incident that "might" affect me in a way that i would need to bug out is absurdly unrealistic.
The last major incident in my home town was 18 years ago, I was not stopped from going to my home to shut the windows, but stayed away afterwards for another 3 or 4 hours, So again nothing serious really happened that would have me bugging out in fear of my life.
If need be I could be in an hotel within an hour of a significant enough incident that would require me to nessesitate me to pick up by bag and get out of dodge.
That is the "reality" of anything happening big enough to have me legging it.
YMMV
im really really gobsmacked at your answers,
i respect its your opinions, and if your happy with them and your plans then thats your choice to make.
there only needs to be one major event and you could be caught out.
just because there hasn't been an event doesn't mean there never will.

Having done this the Risk assessment for myself and my family in the area we live is low enough for a "Bugging out" scenario for me to have reached the conclusions I have.
Erm, the people in the London riots whose entire block was burning to the ground - you think they had time to do all this ? Maybe they were "recording their findings" as they jumped out of their windows?

Completely different scenario to mine though, as CC put in the OP.
Also read item 5.
5.Review your assessment and update if necessary
Risk assessments are done prior to anything being done Items 1 to 4, not during or after Item 5 is when things are happening
I agree with The-gnole. If there is trouble I will find the best accommodation I can find if necessary.
I have been stuck in very slow traffic because of an accident closing the motorway. I dropped off the road at the next junction and ducked into a hotel and carried on the journey the next day instead of spending the night in the car stuck like hundreds of others.
I have twice seen the weather conditions deteriorate with snow and ducked into a hotel and carried on the journey the next day safely.
I have visited and vetted a few B&Bs in a circle a few miles around home and keep a list of numbers, addresses and details ready to go. I now know them and they know me. It is called prepping.

Spot on there Ian, it isn't really rocket science, is it?
If you have plans to bug out ....where do you plan to go ? Obviously it depends on the event, where you live, and a multitude of other things so you may not just have the one plan.
So far we have had:
Campervan
Find a deserted cottage
Hotel / B&B
Friends place
Any more ? (i may have missed some)
If you have plans for somewhere else, where do you intend to go and why ?
