Something like that...we have covered to a certain extent the high probability/low impact stuff so I thought it might be an idea to try the low probability / high impact scenarios.

No need to get post code specific but if for example someone was off to a particular cottage.....why that cottage and what does it offer (and what are its drawbacks), is your BOL a going concern already, have you stashed and food etc, can it be operated/defended by an individual or do you plan to be part of a group sharing the workload.....sort of thing :D

I know it is unlikely....but who knows, "it" might happen tomorrow :D
Ok , this sort of thing is always better with phots , so an example have a look at this one and tell me what you think , rip it to bits or find the good bits. No fragile ego's here.

Good access to the sea and harbour /estuary (?) so fish, shellfish , ducks etc can supplement the diet. Close to a fairly large wood so thats a bonus as well, wildlife/firewood/building materials. Plenty of boats in the harbour to either scavenge useful items (Radios/Batteries/Gennys/Fuel etc) and if you have the skills, a good form of transport.

A couple of questions

How many people do you envisage holing up there, you on your own or as part of a group ?

Whats the Fresh water situation like ?

Quite a nice looking spot but it also looks like it might be a bit exposed to both the elements and predators. Any fences around the Lodges ?

My personal view ( and I say this as a dyed in the wool natural loner ) is that one may be able to get by for a short period of time by oneself or with a few others , but ultimately to survive and PROSPER you need to think more tribal size. Not only does it bring strength in numbers for defensive purposes ( if thats a major concern or issue in your post SHTF Scenario ) but multiple people bring multiple skills and abilities , they bring experince and interest and enrich the group. If one person is sick or injured in a very small group ( 4 people ) thats 25% of the group abilty gone and another 25% to look after that person. In a larger group its obviously far,far smaller and brings in a major margin of redundancy.
The downside of a larger group is twofold ( i think ) 1st, increased food requirement which can be set off and more people working a field or foraging should = more food. the 2nd is Politics. Not alot you can do about that one.

No idea currently. Possible stream back in the woodland i guess , also possible to desalinate the sea water but time and energy intensive for meaningful amounts of water.
That may be the biggest issue with this place , although the roof is quite large and would supply alot of water to be collected via Waterbutts.

Exposed ? Yes , welcome to North Devon!! Fences around the lodges, I don't think so, you would have to treat it as a Motte and bailey where people would RV back to the Castle walls if there was a serious issue of attack ( not that I envisage that scenario )

Bit close to the A39(Atlantic highway-so called) might be a sheeple refugee clogged road? have to watch out for raiders/scavengers post SHTF.

ditto,

there are 2 swimming pools and what looks like a large pond, as well as a small river which would give you a water supply.
the natural harbour which seems to dry out at low tide would make a good fish trap if you net it at high tide, and a means of producing salt.
there are plenty of camping sites in the area which means bottled gas and gas cookers and fires.
watermouth castle is near so a good place to fall back to if zombies come acalling.
there is good farm land in the area with livestock.
all in, a fair place apart from its too close to a main road.

Then of course there might be a problem if the climate change effects on sea levels kicks in,

Anything low level near the coast if/when that happens is likely/possibly going to be at sea.

I know a little place where I could happily set up a community, has plenty of accomodation, water supplies, wild-life for food, loads of space for farming both arable and livestock, lots of farms around for machinery, own fuel storage areas, wood for firewood, off the beaten track and prying eyes, good all round security fencing.

Lots of potential with that.

I assume thats an old Mill on the river at 387309?? Could be ( maybe if the inners are still there ) pressed back in service for agricultural use and to create some Lekky.

It's part of the Manor house, so could well have been a mill attached many years ago, or as a feed for a lake or pond.
