I got one like this a few years back, great for lights on the lotty as well :D

Oh that is a good price, I might if nothing else comes up get that on 20th when I get paid, was going to use some of the money for store cupboard but that might be a better idea. What quantity of fuel can you legally store for it?

Still got about 6 Kg of dry foods (mainly lentils and beans) but that aint gonna last me much.
And also makes a boring diet, last thing you want in a survival situation if you can avoid it as meal times can end up being the highlight of the day, and much better if its something you can enjoy, especially if its weather that keeps you stuck in.[/quote]

That don't worry me.
I have been living on that diet for over a month out of financial necessity. Its BETTER than the times when I just lived off tesco value rice for more then a month, breakfast, lunch, tea and supper.
That was real bad for me. I mean real real bad.
I once did months on just on tesco value spaghetti and felt like I was living like a king when I stole some cooking oil and salt to help cook it.

Beats the fu@k out of going hungry.
I have been there too.

These days I keep salt and oil a plenty in stock plus a numerous number of spices (full spectrum if I can), plus cheap tomato puree (35p a tube, keep loads of them in the fridge. use it to make it seem like I am having a real meal) so that I can at least vary the flavor bit by bit each time.

I have to live like this. I am the poor. I have payments to make and all that kind of stuff. Council taxes don't pay themselves and blah de blah de blah.

And when I have income tax bills and national insurance to cover, things get harder :)

But I am still alive and i have had a GOOD stew today made with buckwheat, rice, lentils, some gluten free stock and water.
It was GREAT!! and I have some left over in the fridge for tomorrow.

There was a time in my life when (for health reasons) I couldn't eat more than one biscuit a day without being in agony.

If I eat, I am grateful :)

Officially it's about 10ltrs.

But that is probably enough for a days running, you can have a rolling store of fuel though.

Thanks 10lts is not much, I have that much in green cans just for lawn mower. Use one can, then when its empty fill it while other is being used.

Can I ask can anyone tell me what is a good dehydrator to buy, as thinking of getting on but know nothing about them at all, have done some dried fruit in oven but as I cannot afford to get canning equipment sent over from UK and cannot seem to find anywhere here that sells it under a few hundred pounds was thinking maybe a dehydrator might be the thing to get? That would be instead of the generator this month, can't afford both, I don't do credit so if I have enough cash I buy if not I don't. Thanks

It depends on what volume of dehydrating you are doing.
If you get a dehydrator, get a vacuum packer too IMHO

My small 16 quart canner (big enough for 8 X 1 pint or half litre "cans") cost under 110 GBP and that includes P+P from Discount Cabin. But it did take a few weeks to arrive from L.A. in California to the UK.

Small cheap dehydrators can be got from Westfalia

Two twenty ltr jerry cans of red diesel added to the store today, had to drain some oil lines for work and it seemed such a shame to have to "lose it" so it will be heading for the Genny.

Also a few bags of Kee-klamp fittings ( http://keesafety.co.uk/products/kee_klamp ) and a ruck of piping to go with it so I can build a new stand for the water storage tanks on the allotment, it was going to be scrapped, seemed a waste to chuck it in the skip

(I own a IT business, so may as well use the perks)
Ho much did you pay for the Magnums and the jeans Metatron? I'm after both of these :D
The boots were £20 per pair, the jeans were £22 a pair. Which is fairly low as the cheapest I've seen the boots in a retail setting was £32 and jeans £30
Wow! That's a really good price then. Do you know if they sell online?

Just bought 4 one litre bottles to keep in the car - does anyone know if it is safe to leave the water in the original bottles that they come in or do you need to pour it into another type of container? I heard somewhere that you shouldn't leave water in the car in the plastic bottles - but that may have something to do with summertime and the heat.

There has been some concern about the 'plastic toxins' leaking into the water bottles when warm and the suggestion has been made not to leave in your car. It can also go green!!!! Over winter it should be fine unless very cold, it might then freeze and you may have a leakage when it defrosts.
I keep water for washer bottles etc in the car all the time but add drinking water when going on loong journeys. I always carry a water bottle with me daily anyway.
