Hi from Manchester

Post by JennyHen »

Hiya

I noticed there's a few folks from sunny (hah!) Manchester on here.

I decided to find out more about prepping after the last couple of harsh winters we've had here: that, the summer's riots and the feeling of growing unrest and economic uncertainty make it clear that having stuff (spare food, blankets, solar powered lanterns etc) are really handy things to have around. I always had my emergency car kit in the boot back when I had a car, so "being prepared" is something that's not really that new. I suppose it's something I started to pick up in Brownies - the rule abut always having a notebook and pencil and 5p for the phone :)

I've read quite a few posts while I waited for my account to be activated, and I've noticed quite a lot of acronyms that I've never come across before, so please bear with me if I ask what things stand for

Jenny - hello and welcome, from East Yorkshire.

Here is a list of the acronyms - don't worry too much about them. Some people are fond of using them and others (like myself) don't really bother.

I can also see the connection between the scouting movement and "prepping". For me it reminds me of when i was a cub scout, but on an adult scale.

I am just a 37 year old chap from the south mids and am enjoying slowly (as circumstances allow) building up my lifestyle based upon being a little more cautious.

I got much more to do and I have to maintain life whilst i am doing it.

Its doable, with the help from freely available information online and a bit of practice.

Hello and welcome to the Forum. :)
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Welcome JH. Seems you've got similar thoughts to me, I'm over the other side and things have certainly bitten harder in the winters!
