Well, my friend and I were both holding down full time jobs too, and working every weekend at markets and fairs, plus doing parties, was starting to wear both of us down.
We would have needed to be able to devote all our time to it to make it pay enough. And, because they were premium products we couldn't mark them up too much - usually only 15%. So we would have needed to sell A LOT of stuff to make a decent profit and even then it would have been nowhere near enough to sustain two people, not on the salaries we were earning at our day jobs. I loved it, though. We had some really good customers who would come and spend £50.00 and not even think twice about it. And the products we had were AMAZING! I've still got a few bottles of our olive oil in the cupboard.
Awh that is a shame, sounds interesting. I used to have big website selling soap, bath bombs, etc. i loved that but the ME made it such a struggle so that went too, plus we went onto benefits and it was too much hassle.
I love honey and don't mind splashing out on some good stuff. It's amazing how it can add fantastic flavours to meats, vegetables etc.
I am always amazed that we as a country seem to regulate our own industries into death and then are quite happy to buy products from other countries without such strict regulation.... Bacon is my favourite example, I only buy British and pay the extra to do so as I know that 80% of the bacon in your supermarket is less well looked after and yet we import huge amounts of it
I have supported Compassion in World Farming for a long time and the frankly bonkers policies we implement in this country then ignore in others makes me believe the whole system is corrupt.
Honey is produced by bees and is derived from nectar taken from flowers. Honey sold in shops is subject to many food regulations that stipulate honey should be a pure substance without any additives. The only added ingredients commonly used are water and natural sweeteners.
It doesn't say in what quantities water and natural sweeteners are added and if they ought to be on the label.
I was working on a railways line a few years ago and my college opened up a cable trough. We were stood there looking at a broken hive, all the honey combs sat there dripping with honey.
There were no bees present which made us suspect that the hive may have been sprayed with insecticide.
However there were no dead bees anywhere so we thought f* it.
