Re: Spare Emergency Mobile
Good find Kalprep, I might be looking into this a bit more, might even look at a seperate sim card as not every emergency requires the world to fall apart to need a back up

Re: Spare Emergency Mobile
Exactly, is SHTF in a really bad way then you are stuffed. If I just need to bug out for a local situation or whatever, it's there in the bag ready to go. It's also simple and therefore less things to go wrong.

interesting, but why has it taken someone 20 years to think of this!

Re: Spare Emergency Mobile
Well it took them nearly a century to come up with a radio telephone small enough to fit in a pocket, so I guess things take a while to Evolvetfish wrote:interesting, but why has it taken someone 20 years to think of this!

Handy for everyday 'emergencies'. But I remember during the London bombings the whole mobile network across London was overloaded/shutdown by MI5 (delete as applicable), and completely unusable. The first time I could get a signal was early evening.
So in a terrorist incident or similar, mobiles, in my experience, are as good as useless.

Land lines continued to operate though, I guess that there would be a few queues at them though.Attack Warning Red wrote:Handy for everyday 'emergencies'. Same thing happens during New Year celebrations, the authorities shut down certain elements to stop overload, sort of rationing the airways.

Re: Spare Emergency Mobile
Landlines do indeed stay operational during most emergencies.
I have 4 Corded phones for emergencies. 2 for me and wifey and 1 each for our kids homes. Most people (including us) have cordless phones which are useless even in just a power cut.
If the power is out and phone masts are not working then 99% of the population have no means of communication.
You can even steal (I do not condone stealing) the electricity that comes down the phone line to power a small lamp or something that does not require a great deal of electricity.
Public phones are becoming fewer and fewer. Just take a shufty next time you go out and see how many public phones you can spot. There used to be one on every corner, virtually.
Be lucky (and communicative)
