Re: On line groceries
The cheese was
Happy Cow Austrian Processed Cheese.
As for the savings, I'm was more happy about availability, rather than saving dosh. I've not seen tinned cheese in an age, never seen tinned marge available in the supermarkets around here and getting powdered egg can be a bit hit and miss. But remember, those items were all on offer at buy 4 or 5 for a quid.
The rest of the order (apart from the meat) can be obtained mooching around the local bargin shops (6 miles travel each way). So their in there to bulk out the order.
I've read good things about the meat they supply so thought I'd give it a try.

Re: On line groceries
They used to do "happy cow" cheese triangles in Aldi/Lidl, no refrigeration needed, but needed to be cool and dark place for storage, they are currently doing cheese slices that don't need refrigeration.

Re: On line groceries
Il be taking a look at them next time we are shopping, the last tinned cheese I was was the expensive one about 5 euros a tin, at http://shop.conserva.de/epages/es116266 ... s/N-KAS-01the-gnole wrote:They used to do "happy cow" cheese triangles in Aldi/Lidl, no refrigeration needed, but needed to be cool and dark place for storage, they are currently doing cheese slices that don't need refrigeration.
Gnole, this might intrest you ' Shelf life
The imprinted best by date is 12 months from production. We cannot issue any guarantee regarding the real shelf life beyond best by date.
However, as far as our personal experience with a similar product goes, we can provide you with some more information. Recently we tried another canned cheese from the US market (imported from Australia) that had been produced more than 30 months ago and stored without refrigeration! It is not available on the European but on the US market where it is issued an "indefinite" shelf life according to US regulations. It was in mint condition, it did neither change in colour, nor in consistency, nor in taste over this long period of time!'

Re: On line groceries
Ok, so the package arrived @07.30 hrs this morn.
Sturdy cardboard box, well secured. So far so good.
First off no Gammon (although they did email yesterday to say they were out of stock)
I've written to the supplier to say how taken aback we were at the short 'best before' date of almost all the items. The Egg substitute, Marge & Cheese were all for this year. At least the marge and cheese is in tins so hopefully no biggie there.
Where they really let themselves down was the coffee. One pouch was already past it's best before date when it arrived.
I've written to them expressing our concerns. See what happens next eh !
