Amen to that! 8-)

Whatever this "prepping" thing is, it probably wont be agreed upon by everyone as to what it is.

electric blanket? hot water bottle?? Nick i thought you were a young, fit man! try sleeping in a (non fitted out) caravan (no-not a mobile home) in a cold winter, waking up in the morning with iceicles on the INSIDE of the window, then you will really know what cold is. i did that for several years, so did my wife(she wasnt my wife then) with a small child.

by using the term "carp"(and i assume you actually mean a different spelling) you dont think this will ever happen and that you dont include it in your plans?

Doesn't matter when it is, the end of the world is the end of the world, it has been around for 5 billion years so far, and will probably be around for another 5 billion years, so I very much doubt I'll be around when it happens, and if it does go next week, what the heck, there will be nothing left

The point being made was that a powercut etc is far more likely than a total breakdown of society resulting in us living like iron age man, so to dismiss a modern method like the one Nick suggested just because it may or may not be practical when the world is full of zombies eating each other is pointless.

I know a few nutters want things to kick off big time, have a big die off, and to go back to living in some type of agrarian utopia but they really need to take a reality check and to start living in the real world instead of the sad fantasy world a few of them live in at the moment

I think both you and CC have got the wrong end of the stick! "the end of the world" is NOT its all over, the planet earth goes boom! its the end of the world-as we know it! it means a different lifestyle, a different way of getting things done, it may mean a large die off but again it may not! it just means things will be different from how they are now.it could be global warming, it could be global cooling, it could be the end of the "oil age", it could be a lot of things, it DOSENT mean its all over.

Thanks for that paul

So do you think a powercut is more or less likely than the end of the world as we know it ?

If you agree that a powercut is more likely then surely nicks idea has merit, that was what gnoles point was referring to.

It is still unlikely to be next week, next month or next year though, TEOTWAIKI is more likely to be a family death, job loss, or something even less benign.

I think Nick has some very good ideas, and hope they work for him, some of my ideas aren't as good as his, but circumstances between us are very different.
