In reply to the questions about energy consumption involved in boiling a kettle and filling a hot water bottle:
The Rayburn is already alight and warming the kitchen, so putting a kettle on it to fill a hot water bottle is quite simple and won't use up any electricity.
I stick to what I said before, low tech solutions are often the best!

Anyway, why do all these young, fit survivalist types need electric blankets?

Not much good in Nicks place though, he doesn't have a rayburn, nor do 96% of the population, but he, like I, has got off grid electric.Panther wrote:In reply to the questions about energy consumption involved in boiling a kettle and filling a hot water bottle:

I have a gas ring to heat a kettle, I could light a fire outside to heat a bucket of water, but not good in an all electric block of flats.
We all have our ways to get the results we want or need, a young child in a house with no heating might find Nicks off-grid electric blanket far more enjoyable than bronchitis and all sorts of other illnesses from sleeping in a damp bed
