Quality Torches?

Post by ticklemonkey »

I am wondering if people have got any recommendations for high quality torches that will last, are extra bright, light-ish weight and could highlight, say, someone hiding in a field on a dark night about 50 metres away?

I am looking to upgrade my torch collection and get a hand-held, a headlamp and also some stand-alone lighting for night-time garden work.

I am currently looking at the Surefire E2DL LED Executive Defender Torch Flashlight for the hand-held, any thoughts/experiences?

I know it is pricey but I believe in having tough, reliable kit that doesn't fail and it often comes at a price, frustratingly, grrrr!

At least I will be using it often and for years to come fingers crossed. ;)

Any opinions/experiences/leads would be greatly appreciated!
All the best,

At what budget are you aiming for? under £200?

But on a budget of under £30

I like this one, look for it in TKMaxx, much cheaper :D

Am probably looking at £50-£150 price range.
I have lots of torches already, Mini-Mags, c-cell, d-cell maglites but I think technology has moved on from the Maglite range now I'm afraid.
Would like it to be battery driven rather than a plug-in rechargeable but if it had both capabilities, all the better!

Maglites technology with LED/cree technology is a big improvement on the old type Maglites, also good as a baton when you find the person hiding in the field ;)

Have a look at these then,

Some excellent torches and at a good price

I like these for an edc. They are small, very powerful, submersible and I've had mine close to 12 years.

I have a LED lenser P14. A great little torch for about £50. The P17 at about £70 looks even better, and if you've the odd £200+ to spare there's the amazing X21 !!

Hi all,

Many thanks for your thoughts! I've gone for the LED Lenser MT7 with 220 lumens powered by 4 AAAs. I wanted a torch that sat neatly on a belt rather than hang off one and I think this will fit the bill.
I also got 5 free key ring torches with it which is good as they are always useful!

Cheers for your thoughts, I'll update you how great it is soon (fingers crossed)

I was just going to post that LED Lenser are a great company! I have the Police Tech focus, had it 3 or 4 years now. About a year ago I was changing the batteries and something inside was broken. I emailed their UK office, and they asked me to mail it to them. They replaced the torch free of charge, with batteries. Very good support.

I must confess I'm a bit of a torch geek...

A great choice ticklemonkey.
As I said I'm very pleased with my LED lenser P14. They are well designed and manufactured and live up to their claims as regards performance.
