Fire Piston

Post by counsellor »

The other day I came across a youtube clip “fire piston”
It is a small device to light a fire
Having never heard or seen one before, I spent a couple of hours over the weekend and made one with basic materials and tools
And it works and I would say is as good as a flint & steel
Although you do need some char-cloth to fuel it

I had one made for me by a bloke in South East Asia. Lovely piece of kit, but too temperamental for UK weather.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Wifey bought me one for my birthday last year. Give me a firesteel any day of the week.

You need spare washers and some form of lubrication so it is not as simple to carry as other alternatives. It is novel, and with practice, it does work but there are better options in my opinion.

Be lucky (and flammable) (why do flammable and inflammable mean the same thing???)
