I thought it was worth mentioning although you probably appeciate it and understand it completely that its most likely not that it costs MORE to produce the Eggs / Milk / Sugar etc in your Trolley but that the Value of the £100 has gone down , or is worth-less.

And only four tins of baked beans in that shop! So I'm still at an all time low in bean stocks.
Maybe start to live (before the "fall" so to speak) as if the "fall" was here already. Start only shopping for necessities. Cut back, ask yourself if a household necessity is really necessary?

I cold tell you how to do it, but I am sure you have already guessed.

Exactly. I shop at local farmers shops and previously, buying locally seemed more expensive. Now, as you say, the cost of things has not neccessarily increased, it's just that pounds sterling isn't worth as much around the world where we seem ship everything from.

Buy locally, support your farmers and local producers, and you will soon realise you get better value for your money.

Well, I don't intend to live on beans and rice, or cheap crap that I don't like the taste of. I have cut back on luxuries, and what I got *are* necessities. Well - for me at least. Everyone will, of course, have their own idea of what a 'necessity' is.

I use my local greengrocer - he doesn't have everything I need, but I get as much as I can from him. Half of the price of the supermarket for most items. Plus, he's at the end of the street. Perfick.

I think both of the things you mention play a part. But it IS costing more to produce AND transport food, due to a number of factors:

Rising fuel costs
A depreciating ££ which has increased import costs (the UK imports around 40% of the food we eat)
Increased oil prices increases the cost of the plastic food packaging
A rapidly increasing global population
Increased wealth in developing nations leading to a change in dietary habits (China and India, namely)
Many crops are now being diverted to make biofuel, which is pushing up the cost of staples such as corn

Let's also factor in the recent extreme weather events that we've seen around the globe, and it makes for a pretty worrying picture, overall.
