Hi from the West Midlands

Post by Zai »

Hi all,

I've recently gotten into prepping properly this year (for the unspecified SHTF scenario I call 'Z' Day). I live in a suburban environment (Yuck, I know) with my young family.

I'm a licenced radio ham (M0) so emcomms is sorted, but I have zero survival skills and I'm completely out of shape (which I'm trying to do something about!).

My prep consists of a bug-out bag and emergency box for the car, but as time goes on I think bugging in is probably more feasible especially during the cold weather. Surely a collapse of society would be rectified within a reasonable period of time (a couple of weeks max maybe?)

I'm considering getting a shotgun licence this year too.

Anyway, pleased to meet you all and I look forward to chatting to you.

Hi and welcome to the forums. My husband and I got our foundation license back in Oct. 2010 but still have not made it on air yet due to no kit (and now we have some small handhelds that we can't work out how to set up!).

You can do lots in the suburbs. We live in a rural market town but our neighbourhood, and the amount of space we have is not different than many city suburbs. Do what you can with what you have!

Hi Rosesandtea,

A couple of handhelds would be great in an emergency, especially set up to use the local repeaters. If you need any help or advice setting them up, let me know.

Hello and welcome. :)

A mate has a shotgun and firearms licence and he reckons I'd have no problem getting one for clay pigeon shooting.

I won't know unless I try I suppose! :)

Sport and vermin is a good reason for a shotgun, clay shooting is good for sporting.

Remember that at the moment the Chief Constable has to have good reason to not give you a SG Permit, with a FAC you have to give good reason to have one.
