A question about powdered egg

Post by Alleycat »

Hey! Have been doing a bit of an online search for powdered egg and realised its quite hard to get hold of, but did notice one type of place where you can get reasonable amounts (kilos rather than grams) at reasonable prices but not sure if its actually the same as a cooks standard.....fishing tackle shops...fishermen use it for carp fishing apparently, so anyone got any thoughts?? Or does anyone have a good place to buy the stuff at not stupid money? many thanks in advance :)

I would buy a small amount and try it out. See if your cakes rise, etc. I have bought gluten from a fishing shop on Ebay, so I don't know why powdered egg shouldn't be bought there.

Body builder stores sell it too - I haven't bought from here but this is one:

I don't know if that is a good price or not.

I thought I had a good one bookmarked but can't find it now.

Thanks R&T, the bodybuilder stuff is about double the price of the fishing bait stuff which was why it caught my eye, good idea to try it out ;)

Have a chat with your local Fast food outlet, something like McDs or KFC, they get it in 1Kg bags, see where the managers order theirs from and see if they will get an extra few bags in for you.

Have you tried any of the ones mentioned on http://www.therightinfo.co.uk/Web/Searc ... 090&rpp=10 ?

Yes ;)

We got a few packs of powdered egg, some from 10 man ration packs, but Tesco's do it in the baking aisle

The fishing bait stuff I found is £5.99 a kilo and its pretty local to me, and I have a mate who lives in that village and could drop it in on her travels so no postage....its just the whole is it ok for people to eat....might just buy some and see, if its not good then I can pass it on to my brother and his mates who are all well into fishing. Thanks to everyone who responded :D

PS couldnt find any in Tesco, or online for Asda, thinks its hit and miss to getting it in supermarkets, guess round here they think there are enough chickens that powdered egg isnt needed :?

Some supermarkets that sell it only sell the powdered egg white which is ok for baking but I think we want the full powdered egg so you can make things like scrambled egg with it.

Let us know how you go on with the fishing bait stuff.

Be lucky
