A couple of years ago when we were looking to replace our gas boiler, everyone said get a combi boiler & you can rid of the water tanks in the attic. We settled for replacing the system boiler and keeping the tanks in the attic (50 Gallons approx.)
Not for the first time the water went off this morning....neighbours have no water. OK we can't use the washing machine but we have enough water to see us through, bottled water for drinking and we're refilling the toilet from the water butts in the garden.
The water will probably be back on in a few hours, but I wonder how folk returning from work will feel like this evening if it's still off? I'm very grey man about our spare water...
Water
Re: Water
I mentioned this on another thread, but I will reiterate it here. Why not think about a water distiller? they are commercially available these days and if all you got is water butt or river water, it might be an ideal purification tool.

lower wattage ones (350 W) are better for fuel alcohol and higher wattage ones are better for water
just ebay or google search for water distiller.
also check out the wine works / love brewing website if you are curious about fuel alcohol
