Re: New investment from auction
Good price, do you reckon you will get them operational?
Re: New investment from auction
Hey Aladdin - get the Brasso out & give them a good rub.......... then you can make three wishes!
Good find, providing you make sure the fuel container is leakproof they should be a great standby.
Make sure you have spares (wicks) etc.

I hope to get them back to fully working and sparkling clean.
Good call on the spares for them.
Need to find a good shop that will do lamp fuel, rework items and mantles...any recommendations?
Cheers

Possibly on 'old fashioned' camping shop? (army surplus etc)
If not a shop like this one might do.........

Conversation would go something like:
RB: Yeah, want a mantle
RC: What, for a gas lamp? (climbs step ladder brings down box of gas lamp mantles)
RB: Nah
RC: For a oil lamp? (climbs step ladder brings down box of oil lamp mantles)
RB: Nah, mantle - for me fioreplace ...... a mantlepiece!

Plenty of places for spares.
Also they run on paraffin rather than lamp oil, use mantles rather than wicks, you'll need a pre-heater and a bottle of methalated spirits to use in it, make sure you get the clip on pre-heater though, the other type are a pain to re-fill once empty.

Buy your mantles in bulk, much cheaper than ones and twos, also get originals not the cheap ones of Ebay from abroad, they say they will fit these lanterns, they don't, but they will fit gas lanterns.

Have fun, they look good when finished.

Re: New investment from auction
The lamp above started it's life with me after I won two on Ebay a few years back.
They were red when they first arrived, but the fuel tanks are made of Brass so I thought I would have a go at stripping one down.
The following might give you a few ideas of the fun you can have
