Hey guys...

Post by C4tch »

Found this great resource while searching for some general information. Thought I would introduce myself and say hi. I am originally from Scandinavia but have been living in the UK with my family for some time. Having a family of five to feed I decided many years ago that it would be wise to prep for a variety of situations, from the 72 hour disaster, bugging out in a vehicle to prolonged bugging in at the house.

So far my focus has been to build up a one year supply of foods and other important items. I chose where we live with a view to staying put for up to one year comfortably or two years by tough rationing and supplementing. However, if the outlook was extremely poor I would relocate to Scandinavia where we have family land including rivers, lakes and forest. We are also only about a 45 minute hike from the sea there. My sister and her husband currently look after that side of things, and they are in to their homegrown food as well as looking after the wildlife. We have a large well stocked lake and about 10,000 acres of forest on the doorstep, which contain substantial amounts of deer, boar, elk etc.

I am currently developing ideas for the land we have around the house in the UK and will be investing in greenhouses this year. Unfortunately we have no well here and are not allowed to have one dug, so the lake would have to supply us with water. I have worked hard to make the house as self sustainable as possible over the last few years and have installed water solar built around a solar store, and am about to install a 4kw electrical system as well. Our wood burner is also connected to the solar store and helps to heat the underfloor system when used in the winter.

I personally feel that due to the population size to land mass in the UK, any long term survival would be very very hard without very tough military type laws. Criminals are very well equipped to take what they want and have trained to "sniff out" all opportunities!

Anyways, it's great to find a UK resource for this kind of thing so thanks allot for putting the effort in for the rest of us! Much appreciated...

Cheers,

C

Well. Not much impresses me c4tch - but your setup does. Magic. Look forward to learning & sharing more from you. I always wanted to live in Norway and have a few penpals there - but all that boiled fish they seem to eat puts me off
