Anyone know of any good courses that teach useful survival skills?
Most of the ones I've found seem a bit Ray Mears, or a bit hippy - like this one: http://www.nativeawareness.co.uk/course ... -skills-1/. I'm actually thinking the things it teaches sound useful anyway, but to be honest, I'm not at all sure...
Edit - I have a feeling I should have posted this in Bushcraft. Sorry!

What sort of Survival skills are you looking to learn? To be honest most 'survival' courses are bushcrafty in their nature , IF you were looking for more Urban survival skill?? Then there was a course offered by Trueways survival school before they went bust.
It really depends on what skills You consider to be survival skill? I may be able to help in this area if I have a better idea of what your looking to learn?

Thanks! I looked at the true ways course on their website, which still seems to be going and that did look pretty helpful...What sort of Survival skills are you looking to learn? I guess I'm after something that helps you negotiate the problems you may encounter WTSHTF, logistics of - for instance - moving your family safely, and a few simple and useful tips about storage and co.
I'm not against bushcraft - I even think lots of it is quite a good idea. It's just that in most scenarios I can imagine, living in the woods doesn't seem the most likely outcome... And then, of course, you've got to get to the woods first.

TBH, me being a grumpy old skinflint... I have learnt all my bushcraft skills from attending Meets and picking people's brains and looking at their kit etc. Save your money.
With a few Meets being arranged on this forum and with summer on its way a few more I hope, I am sure there will be plenty of opportunity to ask people then.
I am looking forward to meeting people from here far more knowledgeable and experienced than I

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Re: Prepping courses
This does sound like good advice... I guess to an extent, I'm looking for a short, sharp way in. My prepping leaves a lot to be desired at the moment and it would be great to think I at least have some skills, even if my cupboards are a bit bare... perhaps it's wishful thinking expecting a course to supply that.TBH, me being a grumpy old skinflint... I'll keep an eye out for meets in my area...

'WE' may have information on a relevant prep course that is being constructed but it may not happen for a while ( or at all.. ) but it will probably be the most relevant course to being a prepper type.

The important thing is to get out and give it a go, if there is an area that you really struggle with then get extra help in, even if it means paying a bit for it.
