I suppose I need some kind of post apocolytpic radio comms set up too. If someone was already into that it would certainly be a big advantage.

Depends on what you are looking at, short range, medium range or long range.

Easiest short range stuff is the PMR Radios, medium and long range you are moving up to Radio Amateur sort of stuff.

My level is at PMR and CB, plus a coupl;e of field telephones for secure network comms, but that needs wiring through from point A to point B, but are meant to be good for 10 miles if you can find enough wire

I would suggest CB rather than PMR. Greater distances can be achieved depending on the modulation type and atmospheric conditions.

If you want greater distances, QRP (low power) HF comms is what I'd go for. Morse being the most efficient use of low power if we're talking simple comms. Digi modes are well worth looking into too. (using a computer to generate and decode audio tones)

But like I said, it kinda depends on your vision. We have a few HAMs on here (myself included) if you want any advice on comms.

I have two organic dairy fams as my neighbours and the third is a smallholdinng with pigs. All come with plenty of knowledge and experience of monoculture food production and life in the country.

I will search some old threads about radio comms and see what I can pick up. I have TWR here because we don't have mobiles, but I would consider getting a proper system if it was cheap enough to do and I could have fun with it in the meantime .

This could be a very interesting venture, how would you divide up the land/space/house space is it according to the skills that one presents or would it be on a first come first served basis? Also i understand if you don't wish to share but what skills sets do you have already also would do you consider security as a primary skill?

Before i ask this question please don't think that my intentions are ill founded but would you consider letting certain people(not necessarily me) know you area or other groups your area of operation(AO) for the purpose of trade? or maybe setting up a meeting point a sensible distance away from your retreat? Like i say i have my BOL sorted and believe that i wouldn't be interested purely because you are a considerable distance from me that i could travel regularly to work at and keep up my work/family commitments and also i wouldn't want to throw away all my hard work having said that having another community or small group of people to trade and work with could be beneficial don't ya think.

Anyway ill probably get slagged of for my post but please don`t think im after your grid ref so i can do the dirty on you im too far away and have hours upon hours of work invested in my own BOL with a prearranged plan with my family and friends.

RE land division, I would say that if it ever came to us really needing each other and having to coexist here then that's a decision that should be made by and for the group at the time, so that it can take into account all circumstances and everyone can feel content with the decision having been made with all of our best interests at heart.

My area is Pembrokeshire and whilst I'm certainly not a paranoid prepper, I'm not silly enough to give out my address to people I have never met or got to know properly . I'm not far from Cardigan though, so that should give you some idea.

I welcome the opportunity to make contacts with any and all who think we may be able to help each other. Life is always easier when you are in a network of people with common goals and able to combine resources or, as you say, trade.

The only skills I have are with food production (limited) and preperation (more extensive). This is one of the reasons I might be willing to share some of the resources I have and offer sanctuary in exchange for skills that would give me/us a stronger position if the worst case scenarios did happen in the not-too-distant future.

I should stress that I'm an optimist and although I'm a bit scared by what I see in the world, I don't 'expect' to have to live without the grid any time soon and this is more of a long-term fallback that's fun (when approached in the right way) and gives some peace of mind in a volatile world.
