I have a tub I empty change into everyday....not just coppers, what ever change I have in my purse at the end of the day so usually I've got around a hundred and fifty pounds of £2/£1/ and 50ps (plus a lot of smaller change) in there at any one time - its called the emergency tub and is used as such so gets dipped into if I run out of money, or something unexpected comes up, only downside of such storage is weight - not easy to grab it and run but having notes stashed away has always been harder for me - too easy to spend  I hope if a 'situation' was brewing I would be able to use a change counter in the supermarket or I would just take it to work and use it to swap with the float for the tills into notes. If a true SHTF occurred then I dont believe money would be worth anything so wouldnt need to do anything with my coin collection except load any catapaults I had lying around and take aim ;)

i dont think £50 would last very long in an emergency, most people spend more than that on a normal weeks shopping, i'm guessing in an event that amount wouldn't go very far!

In an ecconomic emergency, having some cash hidden away will be very useful but in a different senario - gobal pandemic for example which is decimating the world population, then cash won't be useful to you until order is re-estblished and then you may find localised coinage springing up. If prepping for a mutitude of possibilities, my thoughts would be keep some cash at home tucked away but bare in mind that that cash may be worthless and you'll need to use other resourses for bartering etc. Just remember to top that cash if you dip into it :)

We started saving money at home when we were looking for a car. We used to have it in the builing society but they wanted notice b4 withdrawls, and i thougt what's the point? its earning so little intrest and i have to wait to get it out, so just keep enough for DDs in the bank now. Good point about ATMs going out in a power failiure. Didn't think of that, Ideally I'd like to start saving in metal for the future e.g gold and silver coins low value for small purchases etc. as I think paper money will soon be worthless. We could be heading for a Weimar republic rampant inflation senario. I can really see this comming as "quantative easing" is just another term for inflationary printing of cash. I heard that the money the state gave to the bank wasn't lent out to business but turned into gold instead. Thats why there were so many "turn your unwanted jewelry into cash" adverts. Guess who it was behind the ads? it was the banks. They know whats comming and they are doing some prepping of their own.

I was not considering keeping alot of money in my bob maybe a £20 £10 £5 3x£1 2x50p and 5x20p making £30 so i would have change plus i would have whats in my wallet as i carry cash i dont like paying by cards.

I figuire in an emergency i wouldn't be making large purchases or even staying in hotel as surely all hotels in safe places would already be like be full and supermakers be carnage.

Seems to me that when there are ads everywhere saying "sell your gold" then that is the time to buy. When there are adverts everywhere saying "buy gold now, buy your gold in 1 gram lots, you gotta have it" then that is the time to sell. IMHO the great unwashed mass of the sheeple are always wrong - and if they are selling, then I am buying.

As you may have noticed, I have a very low opinion of my fellow man.

Deflation is a bigger risk to any economy than inflation, QE is basically designed to stimulate the economy and prevent deflation. You're right about the first round of QE though, it didn't reach the small and medium sized bussiness. There's a rumour that the next round of QE will be in the form of direct injection to the working population via spending on public works and the like.
