Don't know if it has been mentioned on here. I thought I would pass on a tip regarding disposable razors. It is quite possible (and easy) to sharpen those expensive 5 bladed gillette razor cartridges. Here is a link to a video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3Kxiom8 ... ure=fvwrel
I can personally vouch that this works. I have been using the same razor blade for about 3 months now. I don't use a spare piece of denim like the chap in the video. Since I typically wear trousers when I shave, I just strop the razor downwards 10 times on the leg of my jeans before I use it. Sharpens it up nice - you can feel a definite difference in its cutting ability.
Saves a lot of money - and if razor blades are hard to come by it could extend their life by quite an amount.

Re: Sharpening Disposable Razors
Isnt there a health issue they are disposable for a reason, i would image they would pick up quite alot of bacteria after a few months if not propely cleaned. People have died in the past from using dirty razors all it would take would be one quick nic.
It was on 1000 ways to die. A women used the same disposable leg razor too many time and she cut herself and died form the infection which she didnt notice.

Re: Sharpening Disposable Razors
They're disposable because they don't stay sharp for long enough to be anything else, they are designed to be used x amount of times and then thrown away nothing to do with bacteria build up though, more to do with profit and more chance of dying from a dirty carving knife than a razor blade regards bacteria.Bear86 wrote:Isnt there a health issue they are disposable for a reason, i would image they would pick up quite alot of bacteria after a few months if not propely cleaned. This woman who died must've been extremely unlucky or extremely dirty lmao, what is this 1000 ways to die I've gotta have a look at this one. More chance of getting hit by a piece of ice falling from a plane than dying from shaving and the chances of that are pretty slim.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I see it. Bacterial breed so fast that after a couple of days the razor is gonna have all the a bacteria its ever going to get.Chef wrote:They're disposable because they don't stay sharp for long enough to be anything else, they are designed to be used x amount of times and then thrown away nothing to do with bacteria build up though

death #770 December 21, 2007 The Excalibur Las Vegas A Las Vegas showgirl shaves her legs with a rusty razor blade. When she accidentally cuts herself, she contracts a Group A streptococcal infection, which develops into necrotizing fasciitis ("flesh-eating" bacteria). The bacteria in her blood stream breaks through a pimple on her face and starts eating away at her face. She eventually dies from sepsis.

Re: Sharpening Disposable Razors
@ TwoDo Dunno about you mate, but I generally shave with hot water and shaving gel/foam (soap), razor is rinsed out ever couple of strokes, and then rinsed off in not water after shaving, can't see there'd be that many bacteria left on it anyway, be alot cleaner than a comb or brush anyways lmao, not that I need either.
Edit: Rusty razor blade ah I see lol, must've been a mingy showgirl
still very unlucky though IMO.
Edit 2: Just been reading that link, I gotta grab this show lol:

Semi-cide
A man is run over and cut in half by an 18-wheeler while working under his car in a parking lot. His upper body and legs are accidentally sent to separate hospitals, wasting 3 hours of time and the man dies of pain and he bleeds out
Semi-cide OMG
Now that's even more unlucky than the showgirls, and as for Lesbocution, rotflmao... Excellent.

Re: Sharpening Disposable Razors
I refuse to buy those expensive ones-they are a rip-off. I have found a cheap throwaway that suits me.
The trouble with Gillette is that the moment they launch a "new " blade(a piece of sharp steel is just that ,right?) It is obsolete in five minutes, and they cost stupid money.
Rant over!

Re: Sharpening Disposable Razors
Oh ya, Gillette, Wilkinson Sword all the same, bloody extortionate, £8 odd for 4 pack on some of em, but they have built in 'balm', woohoo, so does my shaving gel, you're right they're a dead rippoff.
I'd like to get hold of one of the old ones like my Dad had took actual razor blades from a dispenser then screw top on and away ya go, double sided too. Do they still make razor blades like the old ones?
