I've never been one to believe in the need to prep for a sudden collapse of society. I've always assumed that the decline in society would be a slow painfull affair over at least a generation where life gradually just becomes harder and harder. Athough I have food and the like put away I've been trying to organise my preps with this in mind, I have a pretty much paid off all my debts, I have a small piece of land that I could grow food on to supplement government rations, I could cook with out gas or electricity and I'm thinking of not only collecting rain water but having a bore hole drilled.
However I've just read a book by Jared Diamond, How Societies Choose Fail or Survive which looks at the factors thast have caused various societies to collapse and the time scales. Societies like those on Easter Island, Mayan, Greenland Norse and others, what has suprised me is the length of time it takes to go from a fully functioning (sometimes at it's zenith) society to a complete collapse. Often only three or four years.
If you get a chance to reaad it you should.

Yes you can see it happening. Like a slow car crash. When our gvt. are " monitoring " the situation, it means they are crapping their pants.bulldogeagle wrote:i think you will soon be able to see a society fall , just Watch Greece leave the eurozone and see what effect that has on the rest!
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
Robert Frost.
Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.
Me.

Re: How Societies Choose Fail or Survive
Yeah all great societys have burnt out.
Any if theres ever a society thats burning too bright its ours.
Over Breeding
Lack of food
Lack of fuel
Unchecked immigration leading to movement of disease.
Reliance on technology.
Lack of any real skill among the majority.
A population "correction" is a certainty its just a question of when.
