What if you can't cook anything ?

Post by diamond lil »

Could we have suggestions on food that will keep you alive & functioning that don't require cooking ? It's not always going to be possible to whip up a 7 course fancy meal - or even heat up a tin of beans or make a slice of toast.
What would you live on ? Say you have only a tiny campfire in the open and very limited fuel for it.

You could always eat cold beans!

We as preppers should see this as a problem we can solve - theres loads of options for cooking in a grid down situation! Meths stoves like trangias work well so get one of these and stock up on meths. The other option is a wood burning cook stove like a rocket stove. Check out the website 'Wildstoves' for some good models

quite true, i've got a Rocket stove, a camping stove...the type that uses the gas bottles-not the cylinders, and a home made "Hobo" stove, i have also been looking at the Camping Gaz 904 and 907 cylinders with a view to purchasing one which will give me another option, there are other options like using a garden incinerator, or a barbecue, or even just have a plain old fashioned wood fire.

Those with cats, stock up on wood based litter pellets, they burn ever so well. :)

Nearly anything you would normally eat can be eaten cold and/or raw, even beef, deer, rabbit and fish. If you're hungry, truly hungry you will eat anything. Look at parts of Africa, people will eat dirt to help try and surpress their hunger.

Well for the purposes of this thread let's pretend a stove of any kind is impossible - all that's allowed is an open campfire and you have hardly any wood for it.
