Re: Air Rifles
trouble with buying air rifles at car boots is usually they are knackered and worn out! i bought a BSA Meteor at a car boot in Somerset a few years ago, had it tested at the gun club and the spring was putting out 0.5ft/lbs!! i was lucky, got a new spring fitted( purchased off ebay) and a new breech seal and now its a nice light gun and very accurate, you take your chances at car boot sales usually its a load of rubbish.
Re: Air Rifles
I picked up a second hand meteor. Shot many rabbits and pigeons with it. It is a very useful food -gathering tool. Aparrently you can make a folding stock for this gun, whichmakes it a very practical shtf tool.
Of course that is illegal under uk law,and could only be considered in the case of total societal breakdown

in the case of total societal breakdown i would carry it openly, wouldn't need a folding stock!jansman wrote:I picked up a second hand meteor. Shot many rabbits and pigeons with it. Re: Air Rifles
I've got a couple air pistols. Well two of them are CO2 powered pistols. I mainly just have them for hypothetical situations that might emerge in a complete societal breakdown. Although I do enjoy a little target practice. I've got a Weihrauch HW40 air pistol. I've shot rats with that. Its got a gas ram in and has very little recoil. I've been very impressed with it.
My main air rifle at the moment is a Weihrauch HW97KT (.22) with a Hawke 4-12x56 scope on it. Its very useful for disposing of pigeons. I'm planning on getting a .177 break-barrel. Maybe a Weihrauch HW90. My .22 is a tad heavy for some things and the .177 pellet is a little better for hunting rabbits. In a societal collapse kind of situation I know where I can hunt rabbits and squirrels easily. I had thought about a BSA Lightning but I've heard bad reviews of it online. I've been very impressed with Weihrauch. Its quite a good make. I suppose the important thing is to have a stash of spare parts if you have a foreign made rifle. In a monetary collapse importing new parts would be near on impossible.
I also have a Crossman Ratcatcher which runs on CO2. I've got rats and pigeons with that as well. Not very accurate, but it is quiet. It didn't cost me anything either. It had been rusting in a friends shed. I stripped it down, cleaned it up and got it working again.

Re: Air Rifles
Im with you. I think in this country it would be the Chavs you would have to worry about. Herding together like sheep to tackle on any1 who has supplies they need. If thshtf i would have no problem reducing the population of chavs.itsybitsy wrote:OMG - I don't want to beat any small animals to death - only marauding chavs
