For simple use in a hypo diabetic the hormone glucagon is a simple im injection. Problem the stuff is pricey so getting a prescription is hard. Hypostop gel is given by mouth and is fairly easy to use even when you don't get cooperation.

Atropine used to be part of the standard advanced life support routine for cardiac arrest, specifically for asystole. If you get to my age you will see the ALS protocols change every year and have a massive change about every 10 years. Anyone remember "New CPR" where it was 1:1 chest compressions to breaths at a rate of 50 per minute? You needed to be able to put a tube in the trachea to do it but they had "evidence " it was better. It lasted about a year.

Atropine is for nerve agent poisoning and there are emergency "pods" on standby for an attack. There are pods for various contingencies.

It is interesting to see the list as it gives an idea of what is taken seriously enough to justify preparations. The list is freely available on the dept of health website ( http://www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/gro ... 112636.pdf )

The dose in normal use is 0.5mg to 3mg but for nerve agent poisoning doses up to 30 or even 60mg have been used.

This link gives the patient group directives which would be used to give the pod drugs is available from the national archive as to save money the websites are being cut back.
