Hello from Croydon

Post by Jezza-prepper »

Just thought I'd be polite and introduce myself.

Decided to start prepping as I just think things are going the wrong way, lots of different strands rather than one single fear/expectation.
Because I'm in Croydon and last summer was quite lively I've put an emphasis on protection, but have also sorted out food and water (good for 30 days approx), together with non-grid lighting.

Already taken on board what some posters have said, I was going to get a generator until somebody in a post here pointed out that if all the lights were out but yours were on you'd be an obvious target, was one of those  moments as I realised how obvious and how correct that was.

Anyway, hope I can contribute and definately looking to learn.

Hi, and welcome!

Isn't that a good point about sticking out like a sore thumb in a blackout! I think the answer is to have very small scale lighting that doesn't show through curtains, something like that. I've learned such a lot since I've been on here.

Old fashioned oil lamps can be obtained quite cheaply on ebay as long as one doesn't go for the antiques. There are usually some oil lamps from the 1950's on offer, and the smaller "finger" lamps (about 4 to 6 inches high) can sometimes go for less than a fiver.
