Gift idea - using book and winter storm kit for car

Post by Rosesandtea »

I have been listening to an audiobook while I knit. This book will not suit all readers - it's a "cozy" mystery (lightweight mystery appealing to mostly women, usually centered around a theme for a series, like tea shops, scrapbooking, bookshops or in this case, a needlework shop). It's called A Stitch in Time by Monica Ferris.

There is a part of the book when the protagonists gets stuck overnight in her car, in a Minnesota blizzard, and nearly dies, except that she had a winter survival kit, given her as a Christmas gift by her policewoman friend. The book describes the items and in some dialogue the policewoman tells how to use them.

I just thought it might be a nice gift combination for a woman who likes to read such books, the book itself and a kit (perhaps including printouts from the British Red Cross about winter survival to make it seem more UK-appropriate for those who can't apply general principals to their own situation {"oh, that was in Minnesota, I'd never need that here" } ).

Anyway, just an idea.

Thats a really good thought. I've got a couple of women friends who drive hundreds of miles on business ....

Marvellous idea. My best friend drives a fair way to get to work every day as well as home for Christmas every year - typically on the day that the heavens open with snow halfway home! I'm sure she's got some kind of winter car kit (she's a sensible woman), but she'd love a bundle of car stuff plus a *mystery* - we're both Agatha Christie fans and she loves any kind of detective / crime / mystery story.

Where did you get the audiobook from?

LeMouse, it's from iTunes. I would normally get it in print but I wanted something to listen to while I worked on a project.

I've been giving everybody wee cool bags for their car to hold juice, ponchos etc. and quoting my own experience of the hellishness that was being stuck without basics waiting for the AA. It's getting through and the girl I car share with is also organised now! It's a good idea R & T!

(and all loved ones and gadget freaky friends are getting resqme's as part of their christmas pressies)
