Post by i_am_jim »

i have just been sent a link to this. it is such a cheap and easy chicken home to build. and is very easy to move when you need to.

i prefer the old fashioned style aswell. but if your no good with a hammer and saw, this is ideal as you can use cable ties/string or wire to fasten it all together and it can be easily made from scavanged items and it is easier to dismantle in a hurry if you needed to. and in a post shtf situation you may not have much time to pack up your belongings if your forced to move from your safe location the use of lightweight materials would make transporting it easy. in a shtf world the materials to make this will be easily available and it will free up nails, screws and wood for other more important things. with a few tweaks it could also be used to make a quick temporary shelter for people if needs be.

I like the principle of being able to build a geodisic dome at all - as you say, it's multi use and requires less material. Notably it's very efficient thermally (think about the eden project) so could prove useful for growing and sheltering plants.

indeed. it has many uses other than a chicken coop. it is a very usable strong design that has loads of applications. plastic piping will be easy to get hold of in a shtf world most buildings are full of the stuff. i like your green house idea! you could build several and link them together to make a walk through growing area.
