this has to be the best step by step video i have watched for making a bunker from shipping containers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3EAJex1 ... ure=fvwrel
a used shipping container will cost you about £1.395 each,
http://www.cheapcontainers.co.uk/
reclaimed rsj's can be bought for about £10 each,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rsj-Steel-Bea ... 3cc9a4823d
the bricks/breeze blocks needed can be sought quite cheaply, either from reclamation yards or you could try your luck asking at a building site and the site agent will usually be happy to sell or in some cases give you a few. they quite often have a few pallets left over from a build. i have worked on and off in construction over the years and have seen people do this. as well as any timber or other bits and bobs you may need.even the odd rsj. if not it is a trip to the builders yard.
bricks from 38p new.
hollow concrete blocks from £1
bag of cement about £6 each
http://www.diy.com/
corrugated steel sheeting around £8/9 per sheet
http://www.steelroofsheets.co.uk/products.php?cat=11
concrete can be mixed yourself of bought ready mixed.
and everyting else you need can also be sourced at resonable prices. so a bunker is not necessarily out of budget as realistically you could get it done for several grand depending on your urgency to get it built.
a fairly easy to build bunker
Re: a fairly easy to build bunker
Had a good look at this video, a lot of work and a good example. I have thought of this some time ago after i bought a 40ft high cube container for storage. My idea is a hybrid of the American version which is a tube design but with a large vertical tube entrance with a internal ladder ( like climbing down into a submarine).
I would have good drainage under the container with a run off like the way septic tanks are installed and hold back the sides with concrete blocks and then use supporting rsj beams over the top of the container and install a concrete beam block floor design the top fill over this with soil together with a hatch that looks like a septic tank cover. (of course the container would have to be kitted out before it is put into the ground. all services and pumps would be internal so they can easily be replaced.

Re: a fairly easy to build bunker
i hope to soon be able build my own bunker, and i would also like to use concerete tubing aswell as the containers as i would like to have a few rooms and not all of them will need to be high enough to stand in. hoping to have all the money for it in a couple of years fingers crossed. have been reading up on different techniques for a few years now. and with what construction experience i have it should be fairly straight forward. i hope!.
