Hi Debmcgovern
Welcome to the forum. Could you please pop over to the new members section and post an intro.
Then don't panic. Most of us plan to bug in with our preps. It really does depend on what the shtf situation is.
If you feel you need to bug out then start looking at possible locations - do you have relatives that live elsewhere they might come on board with prepping?

As has been said before there are safety systems in place in nuclear power stations that cover many scenarios, I personally think that is the least of our worries. But I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me :D

Hi Debmcgovern, hello and welcome, I am also new to this forum but been prepping for some time now. there are quite a few members here in the northwest and some are meeting up soon in machester. we are also looking to have a mini conference and workshops early next year. I found that I keep the forum on in the background and keep popping on to see what new and keep informed. have a good read of the posts there is some great tpoics and replys and point of views.

On the job su  I joke of course as you got it right I just want to expand on it!
In the event that there was a situation in which a power plant was at risk as su rightfully said there are several safety features in place in most if not all nuclear power plants worldwide that would shut down and render the reactor safe. Now your only worry is the spent fuel cell storage facility, which would be safe for a week, two weeks if your lucky and they have a super high specification generator until the water pump runs out of power, shuts down and the water cooling the fuel cells evaporates leaving a nuclear time bomb. Which will eventually explode spreading irradiated debris every where within a 2-5 mile radius as well as spreading fallout (not as much as a nuclear bomb) in whatever direction the wind is blowing.

Now judging by your location your wind will generally blow from the south west, so I recommend heading south east from your location for about 40-80 miles before continuing with survival.

Other than that, stock up on NBC supplies and potassium pills and keep on prepping!
