Milton Fluid
Re: Milton Fluid
This is a good , solid household name. It is also a damn sight cheaper than "camping" steri - tabs. My Wife always has it in for sterilising my cycling bottles etc. Never occurred it could be used to clean up water.

Re: Milton Fluid
This is a great find! I need to clean inside of my water butts, and eventually inside of some demi-johns. Milton is on the list now, to use and to store. Thanks all.
Just searched online in the supermarkets:
Sainsbury 500g £1.99
Tesco 1l £2.39
Asda 1l £2.
Hurray! I'm going to the South East meet on Sunday at Three Bridges, there's an Asda at Crawley, will buy a couple of bottles there.

Re: Milton Fluid
Asda own brand baby bottle steriliser is even cheaper at 64p. Tesco is about the same and the label on the side last time I bought it confirmed it was 5% sodium hypochlorite. I keep a bottle in the medicine cabinet for sterilising eye baths etc so good to have in the house even if you don't need it for water
Re: Milton Fluid
Thanks Maryb! I buy own brand all the time, and it never even occurred to me on this, aargh.

But where can you buy this? I keep looking at the bleach - admittedly in a supermarket - but they all have perfumes etc in it.Squirrel hunter wrote:The cheapest method of adding chlorine to water is to use plain, unscented household bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite). Add one drop (0.05ml) per litre – two if the water is cloudy and leave for at least 30 minutes
I'm in Area 1
Re: Milton Fluid
try the £1 or 99p stores check the label for 5% sodium hypochlorite). but dont forget bleach smells anyway

see above - baby bottle steriliser is unscented sodium hypochlorite. Some labels are more informative than others but at least one brand I have bought states that it is 5%
Re: Milton Fluid
Lidl used to do it in 5L bottles for about a pound.Maddie_cat wrote:But where can you buy this?
