Re: The Purificup
Good to assist in a short BO scenario or trip over seas where your water might be iffy.
But.....
Only 12 Gallons before you have to replace the filter

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Re: The Purificup
At first I read 'filter' and thought "Thats OK I suppose, not much use to me here though" as most of my water worries are caused by agri-chemicals.
Then I read this bit
Not sure how it would handle viruses though..... Anyone?
11 Gallons would be OK as a back-up in a full BoB/INCH kit or a serious back-packing setup, or serve as the main water gear in an EDC, GHB or BoB-lite.... I think its more then my Straw is good for
Then I read this bit
Its a Purifier not a FilterExclusive 3 Stage Filter Technology
Ion exchange resin: Turn hard water into soft water by removing heavy metals (lead, copper, cadmium, mercury, etc) and calcareous (meganesium, calcium icons). In addition, it stably produces wear basic water during its life span.
Activated carbon: Remove chlorine and other organic odor including THM, organic solvent, and pesticides.
Nano-silver membrane: The membrane kills 99.99% of the pathogens in natural water sources such as streams, falls, creeks, and rivers. It is located on the inlet and exit of the filter circulation channel, preventing the filter cartridge from contamination. + Absolute 1 micron filter for additional layer of protection against bacteria.

This is a water purification tool for a survival situation. If you want something that will last longer then I recommend the Lifesaver Bottle from http://www.lifesaversystems.com/ as it will filter 4,000 litres befire you need to change the filter.
Re: The Purificup
That may be true for the main cartridge, but the smaller filters need replacing every 250 litres:Instructor wrote:This is a water purification tool for a survival situation. LIFESAVER cartridges
LIFESAVER bottle is fitted with either a 4000UF or 6000UF replaceable cartridge. The 4000UF has a service rating of up to 4000 litres of water and the 6000UF up to 6000 litres. The cartridge will remove bacteria, viruses, cysts, parasites, fungi and all other microbiological water-borne pathogens from your water (see performance data).
Activated carbon filter
LIFESAVER bottle also comes with an activated carbon filter. This is made of high specification activated carbon block which reduces a broad spectrum of chemical residues including pesticides, endocrine disrupting compounds, medical residues and heavy metals such as lead and copper. It also eliminates bad tastes and odours from contaminates such as chlorine and sulphur. It is designed to last approximately 250 Litres.

Re: The Purificup
I'll stick with a Millbank bag and water purification tablets/ boiling. I have trouble trusting some of these filters/ purifiers.

Re: The Purificup
I use a Millbank and rolling boil in areas where the chance of pesticides and heavy metals are missing. Boiling just concentrates the levels
I want a system that'll take these out as well.
