I was thinking if you carry a survival/bushcraft/bowie type knife in your BOB, would it still be considered as an offensive weapon?

Obviously tucked away out of easy reach, I say this because I would like to carry one (a BOB that is), not always but when out on walks or other activities which take me a good distance from home or car, it is rare I would be more than 20 minutes walk from either....
Having a knife 'outside of your immediate control' i.e. at the bottom of a rucksack or in a locked car boot rather than in the glove box would probably satisfy all but the most jobsworth coppers. An offensive weapon can be anything (from scissors or an otherwise legal knife to a samurai sword) that is used in a threatening manner, it is the threat of use that makes it offensive, not the type of object.

I have been in the situation of arrest. And had to explain the knive(s) in my pocket. One was a Swiss army knife the other a Rough Rider penknife. I told them what i used them for and they could not touch me.
BUT LET ME SAY THIS. stay legal- it just ain't worth 23 hours in a Gaol cell. Please don't carry anything else on a daily basis.

To correct myself on my earlier post, I think using the name "combat knife" was incorrect, I should have said "survival knife"

This is the sort of thing I am looking to get.......

I have a few that I rely on. One is an eight quid special but keeps a good edge the another is a thirty quid Buck fixed blade one, it is used for dressing animals. I also have a four quid locker that is used for everything from pie cutting to wire cutting  I have a couple of machetes that are in varying stages of bluntness due to being repeatedly smashed into trees for various reasons, usually hide making.

My choice of knife is whichever one I have in my hand at the time  But for a survival situation my old Army general purpose knife is the one I'd go for. 7inch heavy blade that keeps a good edge. Great for slicing and dicing and also splendid for chopping/splitting wood :D

Rambo knife.....

For the most part they're pure ‘fantasy daggers’ that belong on the wall.

It looks pretty useless to be fair. The serrated edge will at some point land you in hospital for a start. I bet that the cutting edge is like butter.

To carry a knife you must have a good reason to have it in your possession. Try explaining to the police that your good reason is "in case the SHTF" Of course if it does hit the fan then all bets are off.

When fishing, shooting etc. I get on well with a Swedish Mora. Sharp as hell, cheap as chips and tough as an old army boot. Sits in the bottom of me bag 'til needed. With it I can gut rabbits, cut bait and walking sticks (a hobby of mine). And with the Scandi grind it is a piece of cake to keep razor sharp.
Thoroughly recommended.

I have quite a few knives, in fact, I probably couldn't list them all from memory.

My 2 favourites, I think, but ask me again tomorrow  are a Mora, I have several but use 1.

Also the No8 Opinel, again not at all edc but his is the knife I carry/use the most.
