Hi all

Post by arnieh »

Hi to all from Kent very, very new to the whole prepping thing and will need lots of help. Can any one advise me where to start, as I live very close to the Thames estuary I guess that flooding, the Richard Montgomery, the Isle of Grain and its Gas storage could all be a problem as well as the political thing I dont know where to start.

Hi anieh and welcome you start one step at a time look at your food store see what you have in your cupboards and double up on it. As you are worried about flooding find out from your local Council what their flood defence and evacuation plan is. Most of us will have a BOB (Bug Out Bag) which will have things in it like birth certificate, passport, clothes for three days a bottle of water and some sort of easy food radio and a book, that way if you are evacuated to a centre you just grab the bag no looking for where you have put every thing or packing a bag with clothes for every one if you have children pack a bag for them but instead of a radio or book put things in it to entertain them. Opps forgot the touch  As you read the forum you will slowly get an idea about what you want to prep for and what sort of preps you need to do

Thanks for the reply Jumist & Tigs I found the replies helpful. I have been busy and sorted some storage out, I have a councilor living opposite me and he has taken it on board to find out about the flood etc so some progress on that front, I have also started to gather the items for our grab bags once again many thanks.

Welcome to the forum, Lomast! Take it easy, step by step - every step you take is one more than you'd previously achieved. Have you got 3 days worth of food that you don't need to cook? That usually means tinned, or that can at most be heated over a camping stove or something. And water for those 3 days? Then build up from there - a week, a month, whatever you choose. What else might you need? You're right, just check out the forums - I love lists, personally, and there's a whole board on here of lists - bit by bit, you'll get there.
