Oh! Exactly that - derelict buildings; abandoned buildings; derelict buildings sussex; there are some forums out there where the purpose of it all is to get into abandoned places and take photos - there was one that was a really spectacular mansion, with mid 20th century artworks propped up against the wall, and beautiful wood panelling and staircases, so sad to see it in such a state. Hellingly Hospital seemed to figure quite strongly, and there was someone getting into an MoD base which was part abandoned, part active, and an alarm went off. Sometimes its individuals going on, sometimes they seem to arrange meets, it was fascinating! From a prepping viewpoint, one of the best I saw was an abandoned pottery works, massive kilns built into the bedrock, like artificial caves fifteen feet deep or so, it was great.
Enjoy the search!

I to live in a flat , with restricted storage/garden area. I agree that means prepping strategy needs to be hunting ,snares etc, also plenty of empty containers to get water. if you had lots of water purification tablets, it says not suitable for long term use.... what does this mean? only once a week? hopefully will never come to this. Regarding group dynamics post SHTF you may even be suspicious of close friends ...knowing their first loyalty is to family. id love to see a government projection of a SHTF scenario i.e population week 1 ....week26 etc

I would like to bug out to three possible locations.
1. A medium sized business building like a small call centre.
Pros - It has every thing for a small group. Kitchen and canteen for food and stuff. Multi levels to help aid in defence (block the lower levels) offices for bedrooms and big enough areas for other things.
Cons - gotta trust everyone who holds up there as it would be confined space. If someone set fire to the lower levels it could get hot.
2. A boat (large one like a cruise)
Pros - every thing you need as in kitchens, bedrooms, electricity & heat ( as long as there is fuel for the last two. Security would be easy as you can stay away from shore lines. Only need to go ashore for resupply.
Cons - damage and attacks would result in possible mass loss of life. Almost impossible to control security if some one attacked at night. Once the fuel is gone its just a large floating metal coffin.
3. A prison
Pros - perfect for kitchens, rooms and most of all security. You could hold up for a long time with minimal chance of attack that you could breach defences.
Cons - who's already there are not nice people and cut off from everyone else.

Your not to far out with your idea, i would suggest, for the city prepper,a dozen or so preppers hire a small unit on a industrial site, then you could have all the room and storage space for all your needs,it can be fortified from the inside and it would keep a small group sheltered for a long while while deciding if you need to bug out
