Personal health scare.

Post by JOE90 »

Wow, this took me by surprise. Wednesday i go to work at 6am as normal and wake up in hospital a 3.30 in the afternoon with no recollection of what happened. Turns out i told my colleagues that i felt unwell and needed a chocolate bar,so went to the vending machine and passed out. My head has been super glued back together(no joke) and I'm on strong pain killers. I only got out last night, the docs found nothing. They checked my heart and brain for problems and came up with nothing at all. Its a worry for me,as I'm starting out in prepping and get hit with this. I always considered myself quite fit and well and now I'm not sure. Has anyone else been hit with somtehing similar?

Joe, sorry to hear this - I don't have any personal experience, no, but loads of questions. What are the painkillers for, exactly? What was your blood pressure situation? Can you move okay? What about diabetes, since you were going for a chocolate bar?

How do you feel now? And are they doing any follow up for you?

Take care.

The pain killers are for my head and neck, i'm told my heads as bad as it can get without smashing my skull open. They used superglue as it was too messy to stitch. My neck has wiplash, and all this from falling back. Blood pressure is good, as is my blood sugar levels. Heart and neurological checks showed nothing. I feel like crap now not just physically but emotionally too. As for follow ups, i have to take some more tests 1 exercise test and 1 24 hour recording of my heart rate. Part of me thinks its good that they didn't find anything and then why did it happen if there's nothing wrong shown up?

I wonder why you felt you needed a bar of choc ? Maybe you had a sudden drop in BS, or your early morning BS is very low - that would cause a black-out. Maybe make sure you eat regular meals every 4 hours- eat breakfast before you go out - and see if that helps.. is worrying if you drive though innit? Hope it all settles and never happens again Joe xx

I personally wouldn't be happy with their "no reason" reasoning as to why it happened. I think a FULL MOT is due until they find out why it happened. Hope you get the answers sooner rather than later too, it took 2 years for me to be diagnosed with something - so hopefully you will get answers quicker.

Also, make a record of "how you are" for the next couple of weeks - how your sleep is at night, how your appetite is, if you get heart burn from something you eat, if you are more tired than usual at certain times of the days, stuff like that - and then you at least have something to work with and can go from there.

Hope all goes well.

My Youngest was like this at one time. It was low blood sugar. BREAKFAST before anything now. Also sudden blackouts and not remembering may -MAY- be a sign of epilepsy. How do I know? I suffered with epilepsy as a child( petite mal) and it is a family problem. Get youself checked out.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Just got online properly, Joe. Maxilaura's suggestion of a health diary is a really good one - I'd include food in it if I were you, too. And your emotional state, sadly - in fact, everything you can :( Blood pressure *can* drop suddenly - 3 or 4 people in my family are prone to it, and the kind of drops we experience aren't life threatening, but they can leave you feeling very ill for a few days. But for your blackout to have caused you to hit your head that hard - must have been very fast. I'm not surprised you're in two minds to be glad or sorry about what shows up on their tests.

Its about questions, to the doctor:
- what do my symptoms suggest?
- are there any tests for that?
- can you refer me to a specialist in the field?

And I'd do some research myself on specialists.

I remembered a name: syncope! Which means a fainting spell. And wiki says "Syncope is extraordinarily common, occurring for the most part in two age ranges: the teen age years, and during older age. Estimates of lifetime incidence of at least one syncopal episode include 40-50% of the general populace." Which isn't saying its nothing to worry about, but that it may never happen again, and it may mean nothing serious. But to prove that, I'd think that lots of things need to be ruled out, so you can pester your GP for all sorts of stuff, including a vital signs monitor.

And as far as blood sugar is concerned - I hope I'm not preaching to the converted, but you know not to have lots of sweet stuff, don't you? To keep your blood sugar consistent, its about having the typical healthy diet, moderation in all things, and use extreme moderation (I know, a contradiction in terms) with processed sugar.

Hope you're feeling better.

My feeling is that Jansman is right and an epileptic event happened. Tests may never identify it. If it was low Blood sugar or Syncope (both of which I have had) you would not go out so fast for so long and wake up in hospital (Although that could be the banged head). You feel yourself going and crumple rather than instantly black out. Can I make some suggestions?
* always eat breakfast (preferably with protein)
* Supplement with Vitamin D3 (5000iu per day)
* Supplement with Magnesium (at least 300mg per day) This has a calming effect on the nervous system. Use chelated magnesium from the healthfood shop. Mineral magnesium oxide is not well absorbed.
* Supplement with high strength fish oils. They are loaded with top class brain nutrients.

You may want to add a good supply of these to your bug-out box.

I have no idea if your male or female, id guess male but if not have you considered early pregnancy fainting/passing out episodes fairly common if it is,
