How Often?

How Often?
Just spent the day going through most of our kit, not necessarily food etc but all the meds, water filters, rucksacs, clothing, weapons, plates, cooking equip, maps, docs, books, bedding etc etc. I have found i probable have twice as much as i though as when i am out and see a bargin like a camping stove or whatever i buy it, come back it gets put into what i think is the right draw and promptly forgotten so 6 minths later i do the same! Got me thinking how often do peope go through their kit, how do they monitor it and know where it all is etc, how do they stor it in relevent sections and know exactly what they have. It is fairly easy with food because of use buy dates etc and it all tends to be together.
Re: How Often?
On a regular basis, always rotating food and water supplies ( bar the one case of water last month
)
As for equipment, stacked in the shed in see through boxes.
Used weekly when out bushcrafting. Vary my carry from a day pack with 30 litres of storage to a car full with lavvu, stove, camp bed and furs, even throw in a glitterball occasionaly

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
Re: How Often?
Having multiplies can be quite handy. I have set up rucksacks for me and wife, both have similar items. even then I may double again in BOB,EDC.
It depends on what your plan is. I Plan three fold, I have a bug in plan, bug out with car, bug out without car! Depending on which I choose I will still need the Basics.
Depending when TSHTF, you will have to choose what to do and fast, If you have only prepared to bug in, then u will spend 10 minutes panicking when u
have to bug out, cause what do you pick first to take?
I work on three stage, so I can access situation and pick the best. So smile cause make multi BOBs and BIBs!

We live in a unsustainable world, there must be a balance, poor people/rich people no more, only prepared people will make it!
Re: How Often?
Not often enough probably, with stuff stashed wherever we can ( that means all over the place) and out of sight, shopping is what we need plus what's on offer, so what you set out to get on your budget often differs from what you return from the supermarket with
but once a month or so we rotate and discuss what areas need balancing, and if anything more ambitous can be done at that point.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Re: How Often?
I haven't done it yet - I'm *just* at the point where I've needed to make inventories, and I've done that for the medical stuff, and for food etc thats stored upstairs. Haven't inventoried anything else yet. So much to do!
Re: How Often?
Well I got about a month or twos worth of food. I know where it all is and I don't need to check it as it was all topped up recently. I got medical supplies (basic) and all still in date so no need to check. I have a mental calendar of when most stuff will fall due to get eaten or used just like I have a mental map of how little money I have in each of my many bank accounts (if one bank dies I have another account to take my pay) and roughly when I need to buy more tea. I don't need to check them, but I do maybe once a month. I know I am a little short on elastic and leather for the slingshots not to mention some good steel or lead to shoot with, but that will be part of my next massive online shopping load.

Re: How Often?
I just went through mine the other day after picking up a couple of new/nearly new NATO daysacks at an Army Surplus store at the Leuchars Air show. I felt they would make perfect BO Bags for me and the wife and so I started going through my existing packs in order to fill these ones accordingly. Totally forgot about half the stuff I had stored away - much to my delight, I might add. It was a bit like Christmas Morning, to be honest and there were more than a few "I knew I had one of those!" moments.
I keep a Snugpak Response pack in each of my cars - I drive a Subaru Forester as my everyday car and have a couple of older Land Rovers too. My '93 modified 90 is currently floundering on the drive with a gerabox type fault and my even older ex-MOD 110 is filling the garage - although it is fairly mechanically sound - just MOT-less. I had one of the snugpaks in the 90, but am recalibrating it, so to speak, to put in the wife's Focus.
The point is, I needed to go through them all to realise just what it was I had! I'm determined to get the 90 going again (been too long) and so am working on another Snugpak for it.
