Good reasonably priced herbalism book?

Post by Alleycat »

Can anyone suggest a good, comprehensive herbalism/herbal remedy book - but reasonably priced? I have bought a couple of books on evilbay that havent turned out to be quite a good as I was hoping and as I hate spending more than a fiver for a book, if I'm going to have to (which i fully expect to for this) then I want to know that it will be worth it! Thanks in advance for any help :D

I buy everything like that from Amazon mostly for 1p -it's far cheaper than *bay. I have a Culpeper, to me its the one and only herbal.

I bought the Bartrams one off Amazon. Sadly not for a penny!

Just bought the Bartram one on amazon....not for a penny, but a little bit less than expected. Saw the Culpepper one too and was tempted by that too - but thought it might be a bit dated - curing the vapours and hysteria and the like? But you say its good then DLil??

A friend bought me Neals yard remedies but I'm not a real big reader so have only dipped in and out but it looks really good, same goes for others I have, it may not be obvious to you guys but you can't help picking up some herbalist knowledge in the circles I have moved in, many of my friends have plenty of books and practical experience making their own lotions and potions, yet for practical use the grow your own drugs type TV series and books of that nature are probably a good starting point.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I like Culpeper because I've always had one, I used to be really into herbal medicine. It gives the forgotten uses and herbs, and you never know - one day they might be needed again. But you're happy with the one you bought so its all good
